The local political landscape is about to get a major shakeup. Following the recent resignation of the incumbent MP, which officially triggered the upcoming Secret Harbour by-election, the WA Liberals will soon vote on a contender to contest the seat.
The Baldivis Times has been given rumoured information which indicates that sitting City of Rockingham Councillor Ryan Robertson was the sole candidate to lodge a nomination with the Liberal Party for the Secret Harbour electorate.
What's Ryan's background?
For residents across the district, Cr Robertson is a highly familiar face. At 35 years old, he is a local family man married with three young children. He currently represents the Rockingham-Safety Bay Ward on council, which covers key suburbs tied directly into the Secret Harbour region. Elected to the council for a term spanning 2025 to 2029, he has focused heavily on community advocacy, transparency, and practical local development.
His background brings a unique mix of military service and business acumen to the table. Cr Robertson is a 12-year Royal Australian Navy veteran who served across the surface fleet and submarine force from 2009 to 2021, earning the prestigious title of Submariner of the Year in 2020.
Locally, he operates as a small business owner running Apache Media Group, providing media, marketing, and business consultancy services. He also works as a property sales and investment consultant with Multiply Property Group, bringing professional insight to local council discussions regarding the regional housing boom. Furthermore, he hosts a popular local media initiative, The Ryan Robertson Show podcast, which features honest, unfiltered discussions about local business, leadership, and community issues.
Local Sponsor
On the ground, he is deeply embedded in the local sports community. Cr Robertson is an active financial sponsor and supporter of several local sporting clubs, including the Secret Harbour Dockers Football Club, Port Kennedy Soccer Club, the Warnbro Swans Football Club, and the Rockingham Rams (even though the Rams are located just outside of the Secret Harbour electorate boundary).
If these nominations clear as expected, it sets the stage for an incredibly competitive by-election battle for the region. The community will be watching closely as official announcements are made in the coming days.
